Tonight in LA the Cro-Mags
(Jam) are playing at 7pm at
1615 Vine st in Hollywood.
The afterparty is literally
AROUND THE CORNER at Beauty
Bar on Cahuenga and I'll be
DJing punk and hardcore from
10:30-midnight... There's free
beer and it's sponsored by
Independent Trucks. Should be
ridiculous.
This is all part of the
release party for the awesome
Radio Silence book, and more
info can be found here : www.radiosilencebook.com
Years ago we used to do a
thing called "When The Summer Ends", which is basically a contest
and community huddle-up where
everyone posts stuff about
their summer. It can be
photography, writing, painting
-- anything at all that best
describes your summer.
Obviously a contest named
after an American Football lyric is a killer idea - but
we made it even better this
year by sweetening the pot a
little bit. The winner (to be
decided by MOC staff) will get
two tickets to the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans October 24-26! (NIN, Lil Wayne, REM,
N*E*R*D*, Panic at the Disco,
Dashboard Confessional,
Butthole Surfers, Fishbone!!!,
etc...)
We are looking for the best
representation of summer as
expressed through poetry,
prose, photography, artwork,
sculpture, art, dance (you can
post a youtube of an
interpretive dance), however
you see fit. The theme has to
be associated with summer but
can be anything like: summer
love, the end of summer,
summer nights, summer
heartbreak, the beginning of
summer, etc.
If you upload artwork you
might want to write a little
something about your theme to
help the judges out. Good
luck!
mike was going to enter some awesome pictures he took of my dad and i at lincoln park in seattle...
but we realized if we won we wouldn't be able to go, so he isn't going to enter them.
Last night comedian Sacha Baron Cohen crashed the Agatha Ruiz de la Prada's fashion show in Milan by
walking the catwalk in
character as "Bruno" to
promote his new film "Bruno: Delicious Journeys
Through America for the
Purpose of Making Heterosexual
Male."
emilectrique Said: whoa, he looks kind of sexy.
gibby Said: He is so derelique!
those.
man, that guy has balls of steel, srsly. i bet they were clanking on the cat walk.
It's not often I wake up to 15
missed calls and 20 text
messages these days... In fact
I would say it never happens
anymore. But something
happened last night in NYC
that warranted it. Something
that triggered memories, blew
minds, and made everyone want
to talk to everyone else
before, during, and after...
MBV apparently fucking
destroyed NYC last night, and
I'm wondering why the hell I
didn't go.
From Billboard:
"They came, they played, they
conquered. Actually, they
destroyed. Or maybe they did
something to us that we can't
really even describe. Whatever
happened, My Bloody
Valentine's performance last
night in New York is already
going down as the most
affecting thing that a lot of
people have ever experienced."
paperplanecrash Said: i like the shoegazer movement
me, too.
AND IT WOULD BE REALLY REALLY SWELL IF RIDE WOULD GET BACK TOGETHER FOR AT LEAST A PORTLAND SHOW
Antony and the Johnsons have just released a trailer
for the title track from their
forthcoming EP “Another World” out October 7th on Secretly
Canadian.
Definitely get into this sneak
peak... This material and EP
precedes the full-length album
due out in January called "The Crying Light"
Not in years has their been
such a mysterious, enigmatic,
and memorable vocalist as Antony Hegarty.
Antony and the Johnsons
emerged onto the international
stage in 2005 with their
breakthrough I Am A Bird Now.
The group were awarded the
Mercury Prize in the UK and
toured the world. Since then
Antony has collaborated on
tracks with Bjork for her latest album Volta,
appeared in the Leonard Cohen documentary I'm Your Man,
featured as vocalist with Hercules and Love Affair, recorded for the Todd Haynes bio epic of Bob Dylan: I'm
Not There, and collaborated
with Charles Atlas on a European tour of their
stage spectacle Turning.
Anthony Pappallardo and Nathan
Nedorostek just finished what
might be the most intellectual
and personal look at American
Hardcore... ever.
It's called "Radio Silence: A Selected
Visual History of American
Hardcore Music" and it rips. By gathering
interviews, photos, zines,
clippings, home-made t-shirts,
flyers, and other ephemera
from personal collections of
hardcore kids focusing on the
years between 1978-1993, this
look into the often
misunderstood space between
punk and grunge ... into the
real blood and sweat of a
subculture at it's dawn is
both moving and nostalgic. If
the American Hardcore film was
"Black Flag", then this book is "Antioch Arrow" or "Embrace". I hope that analogy works
for you.
You aren't reading a dude's
opinion on a "scene", rather,
this book makes you feel like
you're experiencing a memory -
with contributions from the
people that lived it (among
them Dave Smalley, Jeff
Nelson, etc).
There is an all ages release
party and show (Mind Eraser is playing) on October 3rd in
NYC, and selected photography
from the book will be on
display at Riviera gallery in
Brooklyn through the end of
October.
Richard Wright, founding
member of the legendary Pink Floyd, passed away earlier this
morning at the age of 65 from
complications with cancer.
Wright is best known for his
contributions to Pink Floyd's
1973 epic Dark Side of the Moon, writing the tracks "The
Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us
And Them"
This will either mean a lot to
you, make you laugh, or sicken
you - either way, it's
happening. Absolute Punk had
it up today via "fans report".
Apparently at the Reggie and The Full Effect show in Chicago recently,
Dewees confirmed that a Get Up Kids reunion is not a rumor but in
fact true, complete with a
Spring Tour planned for 2009.
Legendary game creator Will Wright (you might know him, he
created a little title called
The Sims) has finally released
the long awaited Spore, a game
that ushers the player through
5 sand-boxy worlds where you
begin as a microscopic amoeba
and eventually evolve into a
space-traveling creature.
With millions of possibilities
in the Creature Creator (and millions of players
sharing their creatures
online) this game could be the
perfect time sink to distract
every kid during their crucial
"back to school" season -- at
least until the World of
Warcraft expansion is released
on November 4th, right during
exams! *Evil Laugh*
Have any of you played this
yet, or downloaded the free
Spore Creature Creator trial?
If so, share some of your
creature pics with us!
(I still remember the
ridiculously offensive shit my
friend Andy did with Sims and
photoshop back in the day...)
