Donnie Darko Part Deus ex Machina

Last we left Donnie Darko, he wasn’t doing so well. On top all his troubles, there have been announced plans for a stage production of the 2001 film and starting in a little over a week, production on Donnie Darko 2: Where Donnie At?.

Filming on S.Darko will begin on May 18th and picks up where the original left off. “Little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions,“ like a sign for gas under 4 f’n dollars. Original DD writer / director Richard Kelly is not involved in any official way causing skeptics to rightfully remain skeptical.

It is unknown if the rest of Sparkle Motion will accompany Samantha Darko to LA and whether or not the film will culminate in a “dance-off”.

I resent the lack of Brokeback Mountain jokes in this posting.

This may be the most disconcerting piece of movie news I've ever heard.

i reserve the right to not voice my opinions until i have actually seen the movie...given the first movie was great and was one of my favorite movies for a long time. but i'd rather give this movie a chance because the original premise is solid enough to warrant a sequel.

This just reinforces my opinion that creativity no longer exists in Hollywood and its international outposts.

Yes, there are rare gems, like the original Donnie Darko, but state that its "sequel" worthy undermines its ability to stand alone. Furthermore, I think the sequel will try to explain too many of the concepts left to audience interpretation and remove some of the magic that captivated everyone for that two-hour facemelting trip.
