Ticketmaster Taking Paper Out of the 'Screwing You' Equation
Monday, May 19th , 4:13 PM
Since 99.999% of shows these days go through Ticketmaster, you have no choice but to pay the upwards of 50% in mystery surcharges the company adds on. To alleviate some consumer dissatisfaction while still maintaining a monopoly, Ticketmaster has announced plans to establish paperless tickets.
In what is sure to create another round of surcharges, Ticketmaster will require that those who purchase tickets only bring their credit card and photo ID to the venue, no need for a large printout ticket (that TM charges you a fee to print yourself!). Once arriving at the venue, an agent of the building will scan your card and your admittance will be granted if you actually did buy a ticket. Ticketmaster is doing this, they say, to lessen the time people spend in line for their tickets once they arrive at the gate. Wont people still have to wait in line to have their cards scanned? Tom Waits upcoming Glitter and Doom tour will operate will use the paperless system exclusively with major venues following suit over the next year. |
