The pressure of having to carry Beirut on his shoulders was seemingly getting to Zach Condon. Beirut were forced to cancel the entire summer European tour and there was no clear word as to why. Condon had only left word that “I promise we’ll be back, in some form,” on the website.

It’s not all doom and gloom any more as more info about Beirut’s future are becoming clear. Beirut played a last minute show in Williamsburg last night and Condon recently spoke of future plans and why the tour was cancelled. Seems constant traveling is not conducive to producing new material. “It’s funny,” Zach said. “I wanted to make this record, and I realized there was no way I could actually do it if I was still doing these tours.”

Last night’s Beirut setlist contained new songs “My Wife,” “The Shrew” and “Benito Juarez” and supposedly the new material is headed towards the “funeral march” tone that Condon suggested earlier.

An optimistic outlook is for new Beirut material by the end of ’08 and there's a slight possibly for an EP (that is reportedly already finished) maybe sooner.
